In 2014, the US polymer coil (including EPDM, PVC, TPO, etc.) accounted for 71%/63% of the new/refurbished market, the European polymer coil accounted for 24% in 2020, and the Japanese polymer accounted for 30% in 2021. In 2021, the proportion of polymers in China is only 11%. Overseas polymer applications more main department 1) mature technology: Overseas polymer materials have been developed for more than 50 years, whether it is production technology or construction technology are in a leading position, the United States has a complete package of supporting materials in EPDM to solve the construction problem that is not easy to stick, PVC in Europe and the United States to develop better performance of plasticizers, while using thicker sheets or adding protective coatings to improve the quality of sheets; 2) Superior performance: EPDM heat resistance, UV resistance, strong aging resistance, PVC joints can be welded so long service life, TPO is easy to weld and more environmentally friendly; 3) Stricter environmental protection: The change from asphalt laminated roofing to polymer single-layer roofing in the United States is mainly due to the stricter environmental protection and the introduction of environmental protection laws to regulate the flue gas problem of asphalt melting furnaces, and most of the coal asphalt is eliminated.

 

At present, there are few applications of polymer coil in our country, mainly due to the lack of power to invest in research and development and landing application of polymer coil. First of all, China's relevant environmental protection policies and technical guidance need to be strengthened in the long term. Secondly, there is still a big gap between China and foreign countries in the production, cost and application of polymer materials. From the material side, PVC usually needs to use plasticizers, China uses DOP, DOA and other durability or low temperature resistance of poor low molecular plasticizers, and DIP, DIAP, DINP and other polymer plasticizers still exist production barriers, while TPO raw materials are mostly dependent on imports; From the cost side, the cost of imported production equipment is high, which is difficult for most enterprises to afford; From the application side, the current polymer coil is mainly used in high-end non-exposed projects such as basements or tunnels, and the weather resistance and flame retardant of the main products are still low. In the long term, with the stricter environmental protection, technical guidance and continuous research and development, China's coil products are expected to further advance towards polymers.
